Kerrie Kelly to leave the Insurance Council

The Chairman of the Insurance Council of Australia, MR Terry Towell, today announced that Ms Kerrie Kelly, Insurance Council's Executive Director and CEO has resigned and will be leaving, effective 22 January.

Ms Kelly has been appointed Director General of the Association of British Insurers and will commence in that role in February 2010.

The Insurance Council has initiated a search for a successor for Ms Kelly.

Mr Towell said that Ms Kelly has made a substantial contribution to the general insurance industry in Australia.

"In particular, Ms Kelly refocused the organisation ensuring it is an effective and well respected contributor to good public policy in Australia. She has also been instrumental in delivering the industry's positions on climate change and increasing community resilience to severe weather events, our concerns with land-use planning and building code standards, and establishing the industry's National Flood Information Database. Under her guidance the insurance industry has also revolutionalised the way it manages catastrophe coordination arrangements during the recovery phase of a disaster event, and been a major contributor to the development of a sound international regulatory environment," he said.

Ms Kelly said, "It has been a real privilege to have served Australias's general insurers since April 2006, through the Insurance Council of Australia. I thank the Board for their dedication to the Industry and unerring support to me in the role , and I especially thank my very professional and hard working Insurance Council team".
