ICA board appoints new CEO
The Board of the Insurance Council of Australia today announced the appointment of Mr Robert Whelan as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Insurance Council.
He will join the Insurance Council after many years experience in public policy in the general insurance industry. He is currently the Executive Manager, Policy and Projects, Personal Lines Insurance within Suncorp. Mr Whelan will commence at the Insurance Council on 22 March 2010.
“The Insurance Council is delighted to have secured the services of Mr. Whelan, who will take over from Ms Kerrie Kelly following her appointment to the Association of British Insurers in London” said Mr Terry Towell, President, Insurance Council of Australia.
”Mr Whelan will bring a wealth of experience to the role of CEO at the Insurance Council and will drive the organisation forward as an effective advocate for the general insurance industry and consumers of general insurance products.”
“I am excited about the challenge of representing the member companies of the Insurance Council of Australia on a broad range of policy matters” said Mr Whelan.
“Australia has a strong and well resourced general insurance industry that is well placed to continue to adapt to new challenges arising from extreme weather, population growth, infrastructure changes, taxation reform and government regulation that underpins the operation of general insurers in Australia.”
