Consultations for North Queensland

The Insurance Council of Australia and its members will again visit Ingham in North Queensland in coming weeks to meet with insurance customers affected by the rain and flooding event that impacted parts of the region in February this year.

Customers will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with representatives from a number of insurers, giving locals an opportunity to discuss their individual claim and seek additional advice.

Locals will also have the opportunity to gain general information on the claims process, dispute resolution, and other useful insurance-related information to assist with insurance claims and the recovery process.

Insurers visited Casterton in October to meet with customers affected by the storm and hail that impacted the town in October last year.

Customers had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with representatives from several insurers, allowing locals to discuss their individual claims and seek any additional advice.

Insurers visited New South Wales’ Mid North Coast in September to meet with customers impacted by severe flooding in May 2025.

Hosted by the Insurance Council of Australia, the consultations provided insurance customers the opportunity to meet one-on-one with representatives from several insurers, giving locals an additional avenue to discuss their claim.

General information on the claims process, dispute resolution, and other useful insurance-related information to assist with the claims and recovery process will also be available.

The Insurance Council of Australia and its members visited Harden and parts of south-east Queensland in August to meet with insurance customers affected by recent severe weather events, including the February hailstorm and heavy rain in Harden and ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred in Queensland in March.

Customers had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with representatives from a number of insurers, giving them an opportunity to discuss their individual claim and gain general information on the claims process, dispute resolution, and other useful insurance-related information to assist with the recovery process.

The Insurance Council of Australia hosted a community information session in Hervey Bay on Thursday, 15 May for insurance customers affected by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

The Insurance Council of Australia hosted community information forums and insurer consultations in three south east Queensland communities impacted by the Christmas to New Year storms last week.

The forums and in-person consultations, which took place from 31 January to 2 February, were held in Upper Coomera, Jimboomba, and Tamborine Mountain, providing information and support for customers affected by the storms.

The Insurance Council of Australia and insurers were in far north Queensland in late January to provide additional support for customers following Tropical Cyclone Jasper.

In-person consultations were available in Cairns on Wednesday, 24 January, and included a community townhall and one-on-one meetings with insurers.

Following an emergency decision by Douglas Shire Council to turn off Port Douglas’ water supply, the insurance customer townhall scheduled for 6pm Tuesday 23 January at Port Douglas Community Hall has been deferred and will be rescheduled. Customers who booked one-on-one consultations during the day at Port Douglas Community Hall are advised not to attend in person. Instead, anyone with a booked consultation will receive a call from their insurer.

The in-person consultations were an opportunity for customers to discuss their claim directly with their insurer at a time that suits.

The Insurance Council of Australia and Insurers held in person consultations for insurance customers impacted by the severe flooding that hit the Central West NSW in November last year.

These consultations were held at Molong RSL on Wednesday, 9 August and Eugowra Bowls Club on Thursday 10 August.

The Insurance Council of Australia and Insurers held another round of in person consultations for insurance customers impacted by the severe flooding that hit Rochester and surrounding Campaspe region last year.

The consultations took place at the Rochester Shire Hall from Monday, 24 July to Thursday, 27 July 2023.

The Insurance Council of Australia and insurers held in-person consultations in Rochester during mid-April, providing customers with the opportunity to discuss the progress of their claims and work through any outstanding issues with their insurer.

The ICA hosted a second community information session on Wednesday 18 January at the Rochester Lawn Tennis Club (1 Diggora Road Rochester) for local insurance customers impacted by last October’s severe weather and flood in and around Rochester.  

The session provided policyholders with general information on all aspects of the claim process, including repair timelines, cash settlements, and the complaints process, and other information that may assist policyholders with their recovery process.

In addition, there was an opportunity for personal consultations with insurers on a drop-in basis on Thursday 19 January between 10am and 6pm at the same venue.

Please note: The Lismore consultations were previously scheduled for the 22nd but they were postponed to the 27th due to declaration of a National Public Holiday .

On 17 August 2022, the Insurance Council of Australia and insurers attended the Montrose Town Centre for in-person meetings with customers affected by last year’s severe storm event.

The in-person meetings provide customers with the opportunity to discuss the progress of their claim, and to work through any outstanding issues with their insurer.

The Insurance Council of Australia hosted a variety of policyholder townhalls for those impacted by the recent severe storm and flood event.  These sessions provided an overview of the floods, the claims process and support available.

On 12 May 2022, the Insurance Council of Australia hosted a policyholder virtual townhall providing an overview of the claims process and some responses to frequently asked questions. 

In March 2022, the Insurance Council of Australia and insurers visited communities impacted by Cyclone Seroja to provide one-on-one consultations at local venues in Kalbarri, Northampton, Morawa and Mingenew.

On Thursday 31 March 2022, the Insurance Council of Australia hosted its second virtual one-on-one consultations on for Gippsland and Yarra Ranges policyholders affected by the June 2021 severe weather event.

The Insurance Council of Australia hosted virtual one-on-one consultations for Gippsland and Yarra Ranges policyholders affected in January 2022. The virtual video or phone consultations were able to be booked with ICA representatives or insurers on Thursday 20 January 2022 from 9am – 8pm.

Insurers and the Insurance Council of Australia returned to the Springlake Hotel in Springfield Lakes for one-on-one consultations for policyholders impacted by the Halloween hailstorm on Wednesday 6 October 2021.

On 14 April, the Insurance Council of Australia declared an Insurance Catastrophe for impacted parts of Western Australia from Tropical Cyclone Seroja. 

Insurers and the Insurance Council of Australia were in Western Australia to assist policyholders impacted by Cyclone Seroja  from Tuesday 31 August until Friday 3 September 2021. Bookings for, COVID-safe in person appointments, were available online.

On 1 November, the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) declared a Catastrophe for damage caused by hailstorms that struck south-east Queensland on 31 October 2020.
Insurers and the Insurance Council of Australia attended the Springlake Hotel on Thursday 17 June for one-on-one consultations with customers, providing help with their insurance claims.

In early March 2021, the ICA hosted a community forum and two days of one-on-one consultations in Springfield Lakes for local policyholders affected by the Halloween hailstorm.
